From the humble beginnings of eleven soccer enthusiasts gathering at local parks in New York,USA, a remarkable journey began. Earl Davis, a founding member, sparked the flame of kindness during a family trip in 2002 by assisting a young girl with school supplies. Recognizing the potential to make a profound impact, he proposed the idea of giving back to those in dire need to his fellow club members. Thus, the Lions United Soccer Club was born, later evolving into the Lions United Sports Club, affectionately known as “LIONS”.
Despite numerous challenges, including the logistical hurdles of acquiring and transporting donated supplies to Jamaica, the organization persisted. With the support of collaborators like Paul Lin of Nakisaki International Restaurant and Phyliss Wilson and Annmarie Francis from Air Jamaica, the club navigated through obstacles and expanded its philanthropic vision.
In 2013, the Lions Sports Club achieved incorporation and obtained 501-3(C) status, solidifying its commitment to serving the needy. Generous support from organizations like GraceKennedy Money Services, Air Jamaica (Caribbean Airlines), and Caribbean Food Delight bolstered the club’s efforts. With their assistance, the Lions United Sports Club’s outreach expanded globally, encompassing health, education, and sports initiatives.
The club’s achievements are numerous, including recognition from the Vincent HoSang Family Foundation and Santos and Constant Spring Football Clubs. Today, the Lions United Sports Club Incorporated boasts a Nurses Association branch offering international health services, educational scholarships, and local soccer tournaments in Jamaica.
Guided by their mission statement, the Lions United Sports Club Incorporated continues its tireless work to combat poverty, social exclusion, and health disparities. Through initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and promoting self-sufficiency, they strive to enhance the well-being of communities worldwide.
